Alright, it’s time to end this INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE trip. Normally, as followers of this section know, China is a quick “in and out.” Not that I don’t like coming over here…I enjoy seeing my friend Ma and I’ve developed a taste for snake (probably the breading – it’s finger lickin’ good). But whenever someone comes along, in this case my brother Jay for his aforementioned birthday, it seems important to let them see the sights. And the sights in Shanghai and Beijing don’t come cheap.
Best view: the skyline of Shanghai and the Pearl of the Orient Tower as seen from the men’s room urinal in the Grand Hyatt.
We did Tianneman Square and the Forbidden City again, but this time without the SARS panic so it was thronged with people. We did the Wall again, too, after we finished buying our container of product, and used Jay as our camera-man to film a few of our oh-so-annoying commercials that are currently saturating the market. Actually these one’s are a bit different as we’re announcing our new warehouse, but still. Funny thing: people gather and stare when they think something “important” is going on, not realizing we’re just a couple of guys shilling our wares for the folks at home.
New menu item…cold donkey meat with Ma. Sorta tastes like tough pastrami. We’re working hard to make this an experience Jay will never forget.
And everything tastes fine when dipped in hot pepper oil.
