Chicken or Egg?

August 23rd, 2008 by Thompson Lange

A while back we put up a page on the website that we call “Home Accessory or Haute Couture” showing the runway fashions of a famous designer that seemed oddly “reminiscent” of a number of accessories we had on the shelves at Homescapes.

Which came first?

I’ve been in New York the past few days shopping the Gift Show for Fall and Winter product and whether it’s now finally become a trend or it’s a trend I’m finally noticing, there are a number of manufacturers here who have combined the two fashion worlds of home and apparel and are using the same textiles for purses AND placemats or scarves AND pillows.

I like the idea…in Seattle last week I found a company where I bought chenille throws AND scarves to keep legs warm indoors and necks warm outdoors.  So why not keep it going?  I’ve bought a bunch of stuff this time around that blurs the line.  Hopefully, they’ll be hits…but really, it just amuses me.  The idea that someone might like a purse so much that they’d want a pillow to match.

Oh wait a minute…I already bought these things for the store.  That someone is me.
